Getting a grip on Instagram
Well, I’ve done it, I took a week off Instagram. It was a problem, stuck between the feeling of impending doom from our dumbass “leadership” and the addictive habit, I felt like my life was withering away. It was difficult the first few days, what do they say? Old habits die hard. Right, right. Then it became easier through the week. Even if replacing the time spent meant doing nothing. The end goal here wasn’t to pack my free time with stuff, it was to chill out as well.
Plan:
- Deleted app from phone.
- Used Self Control to block Instagram, every morning I’d add more time to the block.
- I had a note on my phone where at the end of the day, I’d check that completed day off with “DONE!”. Somehow, this worked.
So here’s what I did for a week, outside of work and most of the normal stuff:
- Scrolled a lot of Reddit, which started to feel all too familiar.
- Tinkered on the home server.
- Shopped and copped some new vinyl.
- Deep cleaned the cupboards for the first time in my life.
- Got out of bed quicker and slept better, most nights.
- Celebrated a few friends’ birthdays!
- Felt happier and more aware at times.
- Snowboarded a couple times.
